For students, By students
Produce original publications and policy analyses that expand intellectual engagement and provide students with meaningful additions to their professional portfolios.
Engage directly with representatives to advocate for evidence-based policy reforms across sectors such as economics, international affairs, and public health.
At IIYR, we recognize that research is fundamental to education and societal progress -- yet few high school students have access to meaningful research experiences. Our international student-run think tank expands research opportunities, equipping students with the tools to explore critical issues and gain crucial knowledge to make evidence-based change.
Our Values represent the core of our character and guide every step we take.
Curiosity with Purpose
We ask bold questions and seek evidence-based answers that can inform policy and inspire change.
Collaboration over Competition
We believe meaningful impact comes from working across disciplines, borders, and perspectives.
Integrity in Action
We hold ourselves accountable to high ethical standards - both in our research and in how we treat one another.
Community First
Our work is rooted in the realities of the communities we seek to understand and support.
Courage to Challenge
We aren’t afraid to question assumptions or rethink systems - especially when conventional wisdom falls short.

What is the duration of a research project?
The research program offers a flexible timeframe, allowing students to engage deeply with projects at their own pace. You will be guided every step of the way with regular check-ins and feedback sessions. After completing a project, students are encouraged to continue their involvement by starting new research initiatives or supporting the think tank’s broader mission through outreach and collaboration.
What is the selection process?
Admission to the program is highly competitive. Prospective participants submit written essays and participate in an interview. With fewer than 9% of applicants accepted, the program attracts motivated and capable young researchers dedicated to making a meaningful impact.
If I conduct a research project, would I get any mentoring?
Students are connected with experienced mentors from leading think tanks, academia, and policy institutions. While students primarily manage their projects independently, a support team provides structure by suggesting deadlines and offering project management guidance. This includes providing expert advice and to help ensure the quality and credibility of their research.
Could I work with a partner?
This program encourages collaboration through communication channels that enable teamwork across policy groups. Students can work individually or connect with peers for joint projects, fostering a dynamic and supportive research community.
What will be the output from joining IIYR?
Participants produce a variety of outputs, including rigorous research papers suitable for academic publication, policy briefings, and formal presentations to government and institutional authorities. The program also facilitates connections between students and policymakers to amplify youth voices in real-world policy discussions.
